The imagery in my work is modified dream imagery. I’m drawn to dream imagery because the iconography of the subconscious mind is unique in being unavoidably authentic…For the artist immersed in the history of consciously manipulated images, it’s a relief to be, in effect, given a fresh catalogue of imagery every night, one layered with its own intrinsic significance.

Peter Drake’s Nest was pulled at Magnolia Editions in Oakland, CA on a flatbed transfer press. The image was created by the artist by sanding away the highlights from a sheet of mylar painted black. The drawing was transferred to plates via contact exposure, using three distinctively different exposures to create a tri-tone. The prints were pulled individually, one color run at a time. After a proofing session, where various color changes were tried, the artist selected a right to print which was used as the standard for the edition. After signing, the prints were varnished with an UltraViolet filtering polymer to enhance the richness of the color. |
