TIME Magazine May 11, 2009 Issue

A photograph by Donald Farnsworth of Chuck Close's Brad tapestry hanging at Magnolia is featured on page 66 of the most recent issue of TIME Magazine!

The May 11, 2009 "100 Most Influential People" issue spotlights Brad Pitt's philanthropic efforts in post-Katrina New Orleans. Perhaps to illustrate the authenticity and humanity that belies any artificial Hollywood hoopla surrounding Pitt, the editors chose Farnsworth's stripped-down, starkly lit photograph of Close's powerfully realistic tapestry.

(Frequent Magnolia visitors may notice the familiar pile of tapestries in the corner of the image, and fans of Donald and Era Farnsworth's work will recognize a bit of their Forum Pine tapestry along the right-hand side, too.)

Magnolia's Donald and Era Farnsworth recently attended the opening of Chuck Close: Selected Paintings and Tapestries 2005-2009 at PaceWildenstein in New York.

The opening marked the first public exhibition of four new tapestry editions by Close: Brad (actor Brad Pitt), Ellen (artist Ellen Gallagher), a new frontal self-portrait, and the nearly 20-foot-long Self-portrait/Five Part which includes five views of Close.

The exhibition at PaceWildenstein (534 West 25th St, NYC) runs from May 1 - June 20, 2009. See more Chuck Close tapestries at Magnolia's web site.
