School Room, 1988

edition of 60

School Room was pulled at Magnolia Editions in Oakland, CA on a flat bed transfer press. Each of the 32 runs was drawn separately by Don Williams on translucent mylar. The drawings were transferred to plates via contact printing. The prints were pulled individually, one color run at a time. After a proofing session, where various color changes were tried, the artist selected a right to print which was used as the standard for the edition. The artist continued to make changes and refinements and added more runs to the print during the editioning. The right to print, lacking many of the runs that appear on the edition prints, was destroyed. Three rainbow rolls were employed to produce subtle color shifts in the background gradations.
